Third Angle to record Chen Yi

I'm happy to announce that Third Angle will be recording a CD of the chamber music of Chen Yi, to be released in the summer of 2008 on New World Records. The works will include:
  • Burning (2001)- A vivid representation of the composer's experience of being in NYC during 9/11 (string quartet)
  • Sprout (1984) - Beautiful setting of a 6th century Chinese folk melody (string quartet)
  • Tibetan Tunes (2007) - inspired by a Tibetan folk tune Du Mu played on a recorder called the Xiongling (piano trio)
  • Happy Rain on a Spring Night (2002) - Sensuous nocturnal musical painting
  • Sound of the Five (1998) - Reproduces the sound and style of lusheng, an age-old mouth organ with bamboo pipes, and will feature Hamilton Cheifetz as cello soloist (string quartet & solo cello)
  • Yangko - Trio for solo violin and two percussion
We'll perform Sprout on our Jan. 11th concert, "River of Life"..........
